OVERVIEW
As we look towards the second half of 2024, we see a slightly evolving recruitment climate with a shift that is seeing firms take a more cautious approach to the market. New job advertisements in the legal sector in April were down by over 14% on the previous month meaning a potential for an increase in competition when applying for new roles.
Salaries overall have remained fairly consistent with the 2023 picture, although a mild slowing down in the rate of increase year-on-year. Whilst salary remains a driving factor for candidates seeking new opportunities, the desire for hybrid and flexible working remains high on the want-list and although some firms are pushing to move away from this model, many recognise the need for agile working as a key benefit in attracting and retaining talent.
In addition, there is a consistent demand for a focus on well-being within overall packages, indicating that candidates continue to seek out healthy working practices.
The majority of firms have now been through their salary review and promotion rounds and as the sector settles into it's new landscape, there is still an abundance of opportunity for candidates seeking new roles and we remain optimistic for a resilient two quarters to the end of 2024.
